In my project "Evolutionary Structures", realised in collaboration with the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris, I addressed the question as to whether there exists in nature an underlying structure that has remain unchanged over millions upon millions of years. The founder of the Jardin des Plantes in Paris, Buffon, worked from 1749 to 1788 on his "Histoire Naturelle", in which he proceeds from the assumption of a moule intérieur, a kind of inner mould, a structure equally innate to all natural forms. Large collages containing illustrations from encylopedias of natural history seek out this structure.
